"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." - William Morris
As I sit and look around this old farmhouse, I realise my most precious pieces within it are those with a story. They fall into 3 categories: pieces I have been gifted, pieces I've found tucked away in the dark corner of an opp shop, and pieces I made myself. This is one of those pieces.
Wood Bead Garland falls into the farmhouse-style category, however I also believe it fits well into a bohemian home, or any home which finds neutral tones and natural textures appealing.
The great thing about this DIY is you can custom make it to suit your style. The thickness and colour of the beads can be easily altered - as can the length of your garland. I've seen beautiful wood bead garland which has been painted white with tassels on each end. Be playful, and make this your own. This is also a fantastic gift for friends who share this style, and something they can cherish in their homes forever.
To make the garland:
Twine (I used natural, jute twine from The Warehouse)
Estimate the length of garland you'd like to create. Long garland is great for a fireplace mantel and for dining tables, while a short garland is beautiful on a coffee table. Paint your beads (optional) and leave to dry overnight. Cut your twine to the desired length, leaving 2 - 4 inches of extra twine on each end. Tie a knot two inches from one end, and start adding your beads. Knot the other end and leave two inches to hang as well.
You now have gorgeous wood bead garland to adorn your dining table, fireplace mantel or coffee table. Please send us a picture and show us your creations.
